Can the Canadian Tuxedo make a comeback? Ever since you first saw your wood shop teacher with his jean on jean uniform it has done little to die down the stigma that developed for the all denim ensemble. For a while the double denim look was all the rage in the 90s. We regrettably remember that time Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears showed up to the red carpet in matching jean outfits, killing the movement single handedly. The now retired host of Late Night, Jay Leno was notorious for consistently wearing his jean shirt and blue jeans on his off days, photographed atop of his many automobiles. Clint Eastwood decked out in denim graced the cover of GQ unapologetically in 2011. But is it possible to reinvigorate this unspoken taboo of style this spring?

Believe it or not designers from the likes of Balmain to Louis Vuitton are attempting to reanimate this dead movement, this was obvious in their 2014 spring collection. Even many retailers like top shop and Zara are rolling out their denim separates. What do you think they’re expecting us to do with them? Wear them together of course!

My advice, if you do dare to dabble in the double denim deed, is to stick to just two piece of denim, two is the limit! And just because it’s called the Canadian tuxedo doesn’t mean you should wear it to a May wedding. This look has a very laid back appeal, hence why you shouldn’t try too hard when attempting it. Rolling up the sleeves of shirts and the cuffs of the pants should limit the overwhelming blast of material to our eyes. Fit is everything, so try to find pieces that fit you well and abide to current trends. Stay away from denim accessories, even masters of style crash and burn when they attempt wearing a jean tie or worse, a jean hat. But speaking accessories, try to draw a contrast with a brown belt or some canvas sneakers. Last and most important is be prepare to be questioned, some people will applaud you, and then some would look at you like you just committed fashion murder, so proceed at your own risk.
